On Tatoeba the original sentence was in Turkish, and literally seems to translate to “a stone is heavy in its place”, meaning that one is more capable in one’s own territory than in a foreign place. The English was rendered as “a stone is heavy on its own turf” to give the flavor of the original, while the French was rendered less literally, which is why the mismatch.
