Some of the translations are a bit too idiomatic, I believe. (The translation given was: “I cannot sing in front of an audience for shame.”) While “…for shame” is certainly consistent with the french original, but it isn’t directly written. I would favour, as an option at least, a translation that doesn’t infer why the writer doesn’t wish to sing, such as: “I can’t sing in front of such an audience.”

On Tatoeba the English sentence came first, and the French was added as a translation of it, so unless there’s a very strong implication in the French sentence, the “shame” part should presumably be made explicit.
