Chyba mnie poniosło.

Is the Polish original sentence correct? I thought that poniosło had to be teamed with się to make it mean ‘get carried away’? Thanks

The Polish sentence is correct here. “Ponieść” doesn’t usually go together with “się”.

The only context with “się” I can think about is “dać się ponieść” (“to let yourself get carried away”). In this case, “się” is part of “dać się”, so it’s not really teamed up with “ponieść”.

Thanks. The source for this info I looked at was:-

https://lektorek.org/polish/

And enter ‘poniosło’

[add] ponieść -niosę -niesiesz -niósł -niosła -nieśli pf, impf ponosić ponoszę -sisz suffer, endure, bear, incur. ~ odpowiedzialność bear responsibility. ~ straty absorb or suffer loss. ponosi nas fantazja our imagination wanders. gdzie oczy nas poniosą wherever the spirit leads us. ~ się get carried away

Looks like the entry on the source site missed the ‘dać’.

Yeah, the source seems to be mistaken in this regard. PONS seems to have a correct entry with some genuinely useful idioms: ponieść się - Translation from Polish into English | PONS
