It might be too late to get those in Spanish, but we are giving you enough time for next year. Today, we are looking at the verb <em>comenzar <\/em>(to start\/begin) in Spanish.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll start by explaining what type of verb this is and move on to the <em>comenzar <\/em>conjugation basics. Then, we\u2019ll make our way to more challenging tenses. Finally, we\u2019ll go through some other verbs with a similar meaning. Let\u2019s get a head start!<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"post-7090-_u5aqunflj4my\"><\/a>What kind of verb is <em>comenzar<\/em>?<\/h2>\n<p><em>Comenzar <\/em>is a stem-changing verb with a double irregularity. Stem-changing verbs don\u2019t follow the standard conjugation for verbs ending in \u201c-ar.\u201d Don\u2019t worry, though; it is pretty easy to get a handle on this irregularity.<\/p>\n<p>There are three types of verbs in Spanish according to their ending: \u201c-ar,\u201d \u201c-er,\u201d or \u201cir.\u201d The first part of the verb\u2014the one before this ending\u2014is called a stem. Stem-changing verbs change the last vowel of the stem in some conjugations.<\/p>\n<p><em>Comenzar <\/em>(like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clozemaster.com\/blog\/cerrar-conjugation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>cerrar<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clozemaster.com\/blog\/empezar-conjugation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>empezar<\/em><\/a>) changes the \u201ce\u201d to an \u201cie\u201d in some cases, as we\u2019ll see below. Moreover, this verb also changes the \u201cz\u201d to a \u201cc\u201d in some tenses. Spanish verbals are verb forms that work as nouns, adjectives, and adverbs instead of actual verbs. We know that sounds like a lot to take in, but it\u2019s pretty straightforward, as these forms are completely regular. We\u2019ll also share some examples to show you how the <em>comenzar <\/em>conjugation verbals work.<\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"post-7090-_u5uau274tv2q\"><\/a><strong>Infinitive<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Comenzar (to start)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Vamos a <strong>comenzar <\/strong>la clase.
