It\u2019s important <strong>to know<\/strong> the difference between the <em>savoir <\/em>and <em>conna\u00eetre <\/em>conjugation before you try to use them. <em>Savoir<\/em> is primarily used for knowledge and facts, while <em>conna\u00eetre<\/em> is mainly used to talk about knowing people and places.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"post-4935-_heading=h.30j0zll\"><\/a><em>Conna\u00eetre<\/em> vs. <em>Savoir<\/em><\/h2>\n<p>Let\u2019s delve right in with the differences between these two verbs that both translate to \u201cknow\u201d in English, and take a look at some <em>savoir <\/em>vs.<em> conna\u00eetre <\/em>examples.<\/p>\n<p><em>Savoir<\/em> is about knowing something because you have learned or been informed of it. It is often used to talk about facts, abilities and received information. <em>Savoir<\/em> should be followed by a subordinate proposition (que, qui, ou, comment, si, etc.) or an infinitive verb. <strong>It is never followed by a noun<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Je ne suis pas fort en maths mais je <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>sais<\/strong> <\/span>que deux fois deux \u00e9gale quatre &#8211; <em>I\u2019m not good at math but I know that two times two equals four<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On the other hand, <em>conna\u00eetre<\/em> is used for expressing the existence of something. If you recognize a place from previously going there or can identify someone because you&#8217;ve met them before, then you would use conna\u00eetre. You don\u2019t have to know them well, because it can also be translated as \u201cto be familiar with\u201d something or someone. It can be used to talk about knowledge you\u2019ve acquired too. The <em>imparfait<\/em> is used primarily to talk about an action that started in the past but is happening, past actions or even habits. The <em>pass\u00e9 compos\u00e9,<\/em> on the other hand, is used for actions that both started and finished in the past. That said, the complicated \u201ccompl\u00e9ment d\u2019objet direct\u201d (often called the \u201cCOD\u201d) can be used with verbs that pair with \u201cavoir\u201d to confuse matters!<\/p>\n<p>The COD is a noun directly linked to a verb, without a preposition. It responds to the questions <em>qui<\/em>\/<em>quoi<\/em> (who\/what).<\/p>\n<p>The COD usually comes after the verb, but sometimes it\u2019s placed <strong>before <\/strong>the verb, and in this case the verb must agree with the COD, if it\u2019s feminine, plural or both feminine and plural.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Il a connu ta femme &#8211;
