This is why, in this article, we\u2019ll cover the verb <em>empezar <\/em>(to start\/begin) to help you get things going.<\/p>\n<p>As per usual, we\u2019ll go over the <em>empezar <\/em>conjugation starting from the basics and including some pro tips and extra info. We will include plenty of examples, as well as some interesting quotes that include this verb. Are you ready to get started? Ready, set, go!<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"post-4710-_u5aqunflj4my\"><\/a>What kind of verb is <em>empezar<\/em>?<\/h2>\n<p><em>Empezar <\/em>is an irregular verb, but we promise it doesn\u2019t bite. There are only four tenses in the <em>empezar <\/em>conjugation that have irregular forms (present and perfect preterite in the indicative, present in the subjunctive mood, and the only imperative tense).<\/p>\n<p>The two changes the verb undergoes are changing its \u201cp\u201d for a \u201cpi\u201d (for example, in \u201cem<strong>pi<\/strong>ezo\u201d, as we\u2019ll see below) and its \u201cz\u201d for a \u201cc\u201d (for example, in \u201cempe<strong>c<\/strong>\u00e9\u201d, as we\u2019ll also see below), which is not that rare.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"post-4710-_6uiqcrkdv9ov\"><\/a>Verbals of <em>empezar<\/em>: infinitive, gerund and participle<\/h2>\n<p>Now that you have an idea of what kind of verb <em>empezar <\/em>is and what challenges it might present, we\u2019ll get into its conjugation. We\u2019ll start by looking at its verbals: the infinitive, the gerund and the participle. Verbals actually function as nouns, adjectives and adverbs and not as actual verbs, which might sound tricky. But not to worry!
