Nowadays, however, no one will bat an eye if you use it in the evening\u2014making it the \u201call-purpose\u201d formal greeting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The literal translation is \u201cgood day\u201d, but instead of standing in front of the noun, the adjective \u201cdobry\u201d follows it. Why did <em>dzie\u0144 dobry<\/em> become the conventional greeting, and not the more natural phrase\u00a0<em>dobry dzie\u0144<\/em>? No one really knows\u2014it&#8217;s just one of the quirks of the Polish language.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Use <em>dzie\u0144 dobry<\/em> to
